How to Choose Your Hoop

Choosing your correct hoop can be difficult if you have never hooped before. It can still be a difficult decision if you are planning to downsize, or choose a new kind of tubing, or even add fire to the mix. I am going to help try to make this step a little easier. I will explain the types of tubing I have and where a good point to start is. Any other questions, feel free to message me through my contact email.

Supernova Hoops Tubing Options:

  1. 100psi 3/4 PE tubing- PE tubing is measured by inner diameter so it's a little bigger than the size of your thumb. This tubing is perfect for beginner hoops. This tubing has a little bit of weight to it and is easier for on body work. Reccomended sizes- 34" and up

  2. 100psi 1/2 PE tubing- This tubing is measured by inner diameter. The 1/2 PE tubing is the same width as the 3/4 Polypro tubing so its about the size of your index finger. This tubing is great for those who still like the weight of PE tubing but don't want the same thickness of 3/4 PE tubing. Recommended sizes-36" and smaller.

  3. 3/4 Polypro tubing- This tubing is measured by outer diameter and is about the size of your index finger. This tubing is lightweight and springy. It's perfect for off body work and for those who want a lighterweight hoop. Not reccommended for beginners. Recommeded sizes- 36" and smaller

  4. 5/8 Polypro tubing- This tubing is measured by outer diameter and is about the size of your ring finger. This tubing is very light and springy. It's perfect for off body work and for those who want a lightweight hoop. Not reccommended for beginners. Recommended sizes- 32' and smaller.

All of Supernova Hoops are measured by outer diameter for the hoop circumference.

Beginner Hoopers- The bigger and heavier the hoop the better! It slows down the motion so you have time to think about what your body is doing. Beginner hoops are great for on body tricks and great for learning new tricks. I always reccomend a 38" 3/4 PE hoop for a starting point for an average size person. If you are a little on the heavier side I would go with a 40"-42" 3/4 PE hoop. If you're on thinner side I would say 34"-38" 3/4 or 1/2 PE hoop.

Intermediate Hoopers- So you've got the basics down or you're started to do more off body tricks. If you like the weight of your beginner hoop but want something a little thinner, try the 1/2 PE tubing. Looking for something even lighter and more responsive? Try 3/4 or 5/8 Polypro. If you're looking to downsize I reccomend 2"-4". If you have a 38" beginner hoop, a 36" or 34" Polypro might be a good step down. Remember! The smaller the hoop, the faster it goes and the lighter the hoop, the more difficult it is to feel the hoop on your body.
